My mom had been promising Fisher a ride on the f
erris wheel at
Scheels so one day we hopped in the car and drove to the other side of town.
(Fisher & Grandma are in the bottom left corner riding the ferris wheel.)

Fisher
loved it. He rode once with me and a second time with Grandma.

He kept pointing out that the animals looked like the ones at G&G's house. He was very curious about whether they were alive or dead and how they died and why they are "stuffed" which he thought was funny.
I have never had a problem with hunting. My dad has always done it and I know that he has nothing but respect for animals and wildlife.
However, trying to explain the idea of hunting to my four year old all the while telling him that it is NOT okay to torture bugs or to hurt animals like cats and dogs (because I don't want a little serial killer on my hands later in life) became somewhat difficult.
"You see Fisher, Grandpa loves animals. That is why he kills them and has them stuffed on his wall. But don't you dare squish that ant you are holding in your fingers....that's not nice."
It did not go exactly like that but you get the idea. I am sure that is how it sounded to him. :)

There was a video game type set up where the kids could "hunt" by shooting rifles. Fisher was
mesmerized. We could not get him to budge from where he stood to watch the other kids play. I always think of Fisher as such a big boy, but watching him with that wistful look in his eyes, wanting to be like the big boys, made me remember that he still is only four.

And we couldn't resist letting him have a try at killing his first deer. :)

Due to Fisher's high levels of aggression, we don't have any toy guns in the house. (And once again, I am not some crazy anti-gun lady. I was raised in a house full of guns and hunting.) We just feel it is better for Fisher since he seems to always cross the line of what society (or any normal person for that matter) deems to be appropriate. In a way though, I wonder if we had made his desire to have his own real toy gun all the more urgent since it is forbidden...

But when he is around toy guns there is this look in his eye that makes me hesitate to give in...

We compromised by buying him his first bow & arrow. My dad taught me and all of my brothers how to shoot the bow when we were little. (He shot competitively for years- as long as I can remember while we lived at home- until
rotator cuff surgery made it impossible. After a long break he recently started up again.) Fisher & Grandpa did give it a try but it was really windy the whole time we were there, making it difficult.

Fisher thought it was pretty funny there was a stuffed animal (and not the kind little kids sleep with) called a "Fisher."
And that folks, was our adventure to Scheels.
Fisher had fun and Cooper slept almost the whole time.
