Field Trip to Slow Poke Farms

Fisher had his first field trip of the year to Slow Poke Farm.

Emily was kind enough to watch Cooper so I was able to ride the bus with Fisher and Savanna.

The first thing they had the kids do was go find a little pumpkin in their pumpkin patch.

He found the one! Well, he actually found a lot of "the ones" so we were constantly picking up and putting back down...or throwing down in Fisher's case.

Finally! THE one.

And off he went to another activity.

Next was a trip through the hay maze. The mazes were not my favorite activities. Fisher loved to take off running and while some parents were easily able to see over the bales, me and Allison, being the vertically challenged duo we are, were not. I feel like I spent a lot of that portion yelling after him.

Next up- a boys vs. girls match of throwing the pumpkin down a hill into a barrel.

Fisher made a shot. That was fun for him.

After that they had the kids play with chalk. This was a nice mellow activity for Fisher.

He chalked his faced also and spent the rest of the day looking like a drag queen.

While the kids were drawing they took turns on the fun little tractor trikes.

"I need attention."
At the end of this activity the adults wanted a school picture of all the kids. I know this is a weird picture, but I figured you would get the idea of what I was trying to point out. We finally convinced him to kneel down so he was not blocking everyone as he HAD to be front & center.

While waiting for lunch the kids played with corn. It was messy but they had a lot of fun.

After lunch we saw the fattest pot bellied pig I have ever seen. Granted, I have not seen a lot of pigs in my life but this pig was so incredibly huge and obese that it was crazy.

Her stomach literally dragged on the ground and her legs squeezed it from the back. My friend Allison kept commenting on how that has to be a crime against nature to fatten a pig that much. What I saw was a lot of tasty bacon. :)

The kids all had a chance to shuck (?) corn.

They then took a little bowl of that corn and fed the animals.

There were these cool spiderwebs on the fence. Normally I hate spiders but I do think the webs make for fun pictures.

Fisher loved feeding the cows. I was having a hard time paying attention to anything other than the fact I felt like I was in "Charlotte's Web" with all the animals and the webs everywhere.

We took the remaining food over the the chickens where they had the sloppy (or slobbery, in this case) seconds of corn.

The chickens spent most over their time hiding in a little corner trying to get away from all the crazy little kids.

Fisher held his first chicken.

After that we all hopped on the tractor for a hay ride.

Where we were up close and personal with more cows. (I love this picture.)

Lots of them.

And they were dusty and stinky and slobbery. There was a time where I was obsessed with cows. I wanted a tan cow named Daisy with a bell around her neck who was going to live in a field full of flowers. Now, I don't even want a goldfish. Maybe another blue & gold macaw one day...

Once again, Fisher loved the cows. In fact we were the last ones standing there until the guy driving the tractor asked us if we were going to do the corn maze. I told him I wasn't sure. "Well Ma'am, you're either going to have to go through the maze or hop on the tractor because I have to drive around and we're leaving now." Uh...okay. I did not realize everyone had left without us.

I was too busy trying to figure out how many flies can dwell on a single cow...

We opted for the corn maze. If the hay maze freaked me out with Fisher then the corn was 10x's that. He kept trying to run off into the stalks.

Eventually Mr. Bob pointed out there was still corn on the stalks and Fisher spent the rest of the time picking as much corn as possible.

I feel like I can cross off "do something festive for the Halloween season."

It was a beautiful day but by this time it was getting hot and I was sooo tired and ready to go home.

At the end of the day we left happy, tired and packing dried cobs of corn and a pumpkin. Fisher had a really fun day. I am glad we survived it.

Farms are hard. They are so dirty, stinky....and the flies. But hey...Fisher loved it. And I loved the pictures. I feel I got a little festive too just by looking.
